Anemone nemorosa aka Wood Anemone
Taxonomy ID: 15160
Anemonoides nemorosa, also known as Anemone nemorosa or wood anemone, is a dwarf, rhizomatous herbaceous perennial native to Europe. Belonging to the buttercup family Ranunculaceae, this early-spring flowering plant grows to a height of 5-15 cm (2-6 in). It features dark green palmate leaves divided into three lobes and produces very pale pink flowers with an outer circle of large sepals and a center of intersecting smaller pale pink petals. The plant blooms from March to May and then becomes dormant until late autumn. Commonly referred to as windflower, European thimbleweed, or smell fox, it derives its latter name from the musky scent emitted by its leaves.
