This plant is native to the southern highlands of Tanzania, where it can be found hanging over rocks in damp shady areas or on trees. It can also be found in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and South Africa.
The leaves of Begonia sutherlandii are typically dark green with red veins and are covered in short hairs on the underside. They have an asymmetrical shape and toothed margins. Throughout the summer, the plant produces flowers in pendent panicles that are usually orange or orange-red with yellow anthers. These flowers have a diameter of 20-26 millimeters.
