Didymochlaena truncatula aka Mahogany Fern
Taxonomy ID: 292
Didymochlaena truncatula, also known as Didymochlaena sinuosa, is a unique fern that belongs to the genus Didymochlaena. It is the only species in the family Didymochlaenaceae, although it may also be classified as a subfamily called Didymochlaenoideae within the broadly defined family Polypodiaceae. This evergreen fern can grow up to 1m or more and has long, mid-green fronds that are divided into wedge-shaped leaflets. When young, the fronds are tinged with red, adding to their attractiveness. Originating from the Amazonian regions of South America, this tropical rainforest plant thrives in humid conditions and is often found growing epiphytically on trees and rocks. Didymochlaena truncatula is commonly grown as a house plant and is sometimes referred to as the mahogany maidenhair.
