Faucaria tigrina aka Tiger's Jaw

Taxonomy

Faucaria tigrina, commonly known as tiger jaws, is a species of succulent plant in the family Aizoaceae. Native to South Africa, specifically the Eastern Cape, it is also widely cultivated around the world. This small yet attractive blooming succulent has fleshy triangular leaves that are grey-green in color and adorned with white spots. The unique toothed formations along the edges of the leaves resemble open jaws, giving it the name tiger jaws. In autumn, it produces vibrant yellow daisy-like flowers that are approximately 5cm in diameter. Highly regarded by the Royal Horticultural Society, this plant has received the Award of Garden Merit. Although it thrives in its natural habitat, in temperate zones it requires protection from freezing temperatures and is often grown under glass. To ensure optimal growth, it is recommended to plant Faucaria tigrina in a cactus potting compost and provide it with a sunny location and low humidity. With its exotic appearance and ease of cultivation, it is a popular choice for houseplant enthusiasts, including beginners.
