Hibiscus trionum aka Flower Of An Hour

Taxonomy

Hibiscus trionum, also known as flower-of-an-hour, bladder hibiscus, bladder ketmia, bladder weed, puarangi, and venice mallow, is an annual plant native to the Old World tropics and subtropics. This upright annual can grow up to 60cm tall and has oval, serrated leaves. From late summer to early autumn, it produces creamy-white or pale yellow flowers with purplish-brown centers. These flowers are followed by bladder-like seed capsules. 'Simply Love' is a variety of Hibiscus trionum that is tender, bushy, and erect to spreading. It can be either an annual or a short-lived perennial and has palmately-lobed, dark green leaves divided into three deeply lobed, linear or lance-shaped leaflets. From summer into autumn, 'Simply Love' blooms trumpet-shaped, white to pale yellow flowers with dark purple-brown centers. Similar to other varieties of Hibiscus trionum, it also produces bladder-like seed capsules. While it is cultivated as a garden plant, it has become naturalized and invasive in certain regions such as Washington and Oregon in the United States.

Soil

Flower Of An Hour loves a well-draining soil. Perlite and vermiculite help with drainage, while coco coir adds organic matter, so a good potting soil mix will have all three. You can improve store-bought soil by adding some perlite to it.

You may also need to adjust your placement according to the season as the sunlight can change intensity over the course of the year. If you live in a region with significant temperature fluctuations, such as a desert, you may need to place the plant a bit farther away from the window to avoid extreme heat or cold.
