The plant features thick, branching, articulated stems that have a pale greyish green color with reddish purple lines. Its linear to lance-shaped grey-green leaves cluster in spirals at the tips of the stems. During summer or autumn, clusters of small, scented flowers in white or yellow color are produced, followed by fluffy seed heads. The plant is deciduous, with the leaves falling at the beginning of the dry season. Reproduction occurs through reseeding.
