Knightia excelsa aka New Zealand Honeysuckle
Taxonomy
Knight excelsa, commonly known as rewarewa or New Zealand honeysuckle, is an evergreen tree endemic to the low elevation and valley forests of New Zealand's North Island and Marlborough Sounds. It is the type species for the genus Knightia. Rewarewa can grow up to 30 meters tall, with a slender crown. The leaves are alternate, leathery, narrow oblong, and around 10-15 cm long and 2.5-3.5 cm wide. They lack stipules. The flowers are bright red, measuring 2-3.5 cm in length, and are arranged in racemes that are 10 cm long. Rewarewa is known for being a great source of honey production due to its flowers. The tree produces dry woody follicles. In terms of its appearance, rewarewa has a narrowly conical habit and can reach heights of 30 meters in its native environment, although it typically grows to 8-10 meters in cultivation. Young shoots are covered in red-brown felt, and young leaves are narrow and yellow-green with coarsely serrated edges. Mature leaves are dark green, stiff, and oblong-shaped. The dense spikes of small reddish flowers, with rolled petals and long styles, bloom from late spring to early summer. These are followed by woody brown seed pods. While rewarewa is valued for its timber, which is attractive for interior work, it is not durable when exposed to the elements. As a houseplant, New Zealand honeysuckle, also known as rewarewa, is considered super rare and requires regular watering to thrive. It thrives best in abundant sunlight and should be positioned no more than 3 feet away from a window.

Water
New Zealand Honeysuckle should be watered regularly, allowing the soil to dry out between waterings.
Lighting
To ensure optimal growth, the New Zealand Honeysuckle prefers bright indirect light for 6-8 hours each day. Insufficient light can result in slow growth and leaf drop, so it's important to find a well-lit location for this plant. Place it near a window, within a distance of 1 meter (3 feet), to enhance its potential for thriving.
