Murraya paniculata aka Orange Jasmine

Murraya paniculata, also known as orange jasmine, orange jessamine, china box, or mock orange, is a species of shrub or small tree in the Rutaceae family. It is native to South Asia, Southeast Asia, and Australia and is widely grown as an ornamental tree or hedge. This tropical evergreen plant has smooth bark, glossy dark green leaves with up to seven egg-shaped to elliptical leaflets, strongly fragrant white or cream-colored flowers that bloom several times throughout the year, and oval, orange-red berries containing hairy seeds that resemble kumquats. The plant may grow up to 20 feet tall but is usually found shorter, and can be pruned as a formal hedge to as little as 2-3 feet tall. The plant needs regular watering to thrive and does best in long-lasting, direct light, less than one foot from a window. The fragrant flowers have the scent of orange blossoms, hence the common names of orange jessamine and mock orange. The plant is closely related to Citrus and belongs to the Murraya genus. It is native from China and India south to Australia and is sometimes referred to as Murraya exotica.
