Paliurus spina-christi aka Christ's Thorn

Taxonomy

Paliurus spina-christi, also known as Jerusalem thorn, garland thorn, Christ's thorn, or crown of thorns, is a bushy shrub native to the Mediterranean region, southwest and central Asia. It features slender, viciously thorny stems and glossy, bright green, rounded leaves. During summer, it produces clusters of small, greenish-yellow, star-shaped flowers, which are later followed by small, woody fruit. Each fruit is surrounded by a large, disc-shaped wing that starts off pale green and turns brown, lasting throughout winter. This rare houseplant, belonging to the Paliurus genus, requires regular watering and thrives best in abundant sunlight, ideally placed within 3 feet of a window.
