Strongylodon macrobotrys, commonly known as jade vine, emerald vine, or turquoise jade vine, is a leguminous perennial liana (woody vine) endemic to the tropical forests of the Philippines. Its local name is tayabak. This vigorous evergreen climber can reach heights of up to 20m, with leaves measuring 15cm long. The plant produces pendent racemes up to 90cm in length, adorned with remarkable blue-green flowers that can grow up to 8cm long. The jade vine's eccentric shape and color make it easily identifiable, with its turquoise blossoms hanging in bunches like grapes. The vine can grow to a length of 52 feet (16m) and its flowers are truly a sight to behold, measuring 12 inches (30cm) long. Additionally, after blooming in early summer, this vine produces edible beans. A member of the Fabaceae family, closely related to beans such as kidney bean and runner bean, Strongylodon macrobotrys relies on bats for pollination.
