Frequently asked questions
Everything people ask me most about Ploi. If your question isn't here, email me and I'll answer it myself.
Getting started
- Is Ploi free?
- Yes. Every feature — watering reminders, care guides, journaling, and plant identification — is free. Ploi Pro only lifts the limits on plants and photos.
- What platforms does Ploi run on?
- Ploi is available on iOS (iPhone, iPad, and macOS), Android, and any modern web browser.
- Do I need an account?
- You can start tracking plants right away. An account syncs your collection across all your devices.
Caring for plants
- How do the watering reminders work?
- Instead of fixed schedules, Ploi learns from when you actually water. The more you log, the more accurate each plant's reminders become.
- Can I track more than watering?
- Yes. Log fertilizing, misting, pruning, rotating, and repotting too — each on its own schedule, so nothing slips through the cracks.
- Can I track outdoor plants?
- Yes. Log rain and Ploi pushes the next watering back, and the built-in local forecast helps you decide when to move plants in or out.
- Can Ploi identify my plant?
- Yes. Take a photo and Ploi's plant identification suggests the species, then links you straight to its care guide.
- Will Ploi warn me about toxic plants?
- Each species shows whether it's toxic to cats, dogs, or people, so you know which plants to keep out of reach of curious pets and kids.
- Does Ploi work with Siri?
- Yes, on iPhone and iPad. Ask Siri to log watering, fertilizing, or misting for one plant or a whole room, ask what needs care today, or undo your last log. Ploi's actions also work in Shortcuts, so an NFC tag on a pot can log a watering with a tap.
Family sharing
- Can my family share a collection?
- Yes. Invite your partner, family, or roommates and you all see the same plants, the same schedules, and the same care history. When one of you waters something, everyone else sees it straight away.
- I have Pro and the person I invited doesn't. How do the plant limits work?
- Plant and photo limits belong to the family, not to each person, and the family runs on the plan of whoever set it up. So if you have Pro and you sent the invite, everyone in your family shares your unlimited limits — nobody else needs their own subscription. Just make sure the person with Pro is the one who creates the family and sends the invites, because the plan follows the owner.
- Can I control what the people I invite are allowed to change?
- Yes. Invite someone as a Member and they can add, edit, and organize plants alongside you. Invite them as a Caretaker and they can log care, notes, and photos, but your plants and schedules stay as you set them.
- Does the person I invite keep their own plants?
- Everyone also has their own private space, and it stays on the free plan. Ask them to accept your invite before they start adding anything, because plants added to their own space don't move across into the family.
Plans and limits
- Is there a paid plan?
- Every feature is free. The free plan covers 10 plants and 100 photos — Ploi Pro lifts both to unlimited, and that's the only thing you ever pay for. Pro is available through the iOS and Android apps.
- What happens when I reach the plant limit?
- Nothing you've already added goes away. Your plants, photos, history, and reminders all keep working exactly as they are — you simply can't add another plant until you upgrade, or until a slot frees up because you marked a plant as dead or given away.
- My free plan shows 20 plants, not 10.
- Accounts created before August 2026 keep the older 20-plant allowance for good. The smaller limit only applies to accounts created after that, so nothing was ever taken away from anyone.
