Antirrhinum majus aka Snapdragon
Taxonomy
Antirrhinum majus, also known as the common snapdragon, is an ornamental species of flowering plant. Its common name originates from the fact that squeezing the throat of the flower causes the "mouth" of the flower to open like a dragon's mouth. This perennial species has been cultivated since the 15th century and is widely used as a border or cut flower. It is widely appreciated for its intensely saturated colors almost every hue and its tendency to bloom profusely throughout cool weather. Snapdragons are a garden favorite and are often cultivated as annuals in a moist, rich and well-drained soil in full to part sun. There are both tall and shorter varieties available.
Common names
Snapdragon, Dragon PlantHow to care for Snapdragon
Difficulty
Snapdragon presents a moderate level of care, which allows plant enthusiasts with some experience to expand their skills and knowledge.
Water
Snapdragon should be watered regularly, allowing the soil to dry out between waterings.
Soil
Snapdragon loves a well-draining soil. Perlite and vermiculite help with drainage, while coco coir adds organic matter, so a good potting soil mix will have all three. You can improve store-bought soil by adding some perlite to it.
Lighting
To ensure optimal growth, the Snapdragon prefers bright diffused light for 6-8 hours each day. Insufficient light can result in slow growth and leaf drop, so it's important to find a well-lit location for this plant. Place it near a window, within a distance of 1 meter (3 feet), to enhance its potential for thriving.

Toxicity
Snapdragon is not known to cause harm to humans or pets.
Fertilizer
Repotting the Snapdragon is necessary either when it has doubled in size or once every year, whichever happens first. With fresh potting soil replenished annually, the plant will receive all the necessary nutrients, rendering the use of fertilizer unnecessary. Keep in mind that the source of a plant's energy is the sun, not fertilizer.
Region of origin
Snapdragon’s native range is Europe. Naturalized in Britain[17].
