Helianthus gracilentus aka Slender Sunflower

Helianthus gracilentus is in the daisy family, Asteraceae. Its home range runs from California into Mexico's Baja California Norte. The RHS accepts this name for the plant. It also lists it as not native to Britain or Ireland. This small shrub grows just a little wood. Its loose mound reaches about 3 feet (0.9 metres) tall. It can grow as wide as it is tall. The fruit forms a group of small achenes. Each achene, a type of fruit, is about one-eighth of an inch long. Each bears two tufted hairs. These fruits are far smaller than the broad flower heads.
