Howea belmoreana aka Belmore Palm

Taxonomy

Howea belmoreana, also known as the curly palm, kentia palm, or Belmore sentry palm, is a medium-sized flowering plant in the Arecaceae family. Endemic to Lord Howe Island in Australia, it shares a common ancestor with Howea forsteriana and likely underwent sympatric speciation. With a ringed trunk and arching pinnate leaves that can reach up to 2m in length, this palm tree adds a refreshing touch to any garden. It has gained the Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit. While it requires little care, it can be quite expensive. Growing up to 8ft tall (2.5m), it is a feather-type palm with wide fronds. The sentry palm, closely related to the kentia palm, is less popular due to its larger size and need for more space. It is better suited for an outdoor garden rather than a pot. The main visual distinction is the slightly curved and stiff leaflets of the sentry palm, while the kentia palm has softer and flatter fronds.
