Crossostephium is a monotypic genus of flowering plants in the family Asteraceae (the daisy/aster family), placed in the order Asterales. The genus contains a single accepted species, Crossostephium chinense, native to coastal and island parts of East and Southeast Asia: Japan's Kazan-retto (Volcano Islands) and Nansei-shoto (Ryukyu Islands), Taiwan, Guangdong in mainland China, Indochina, Peninsular Malaysia, and the Philippines.
Taxonomically, the species' authorship is recorded as "(L.) Makino," indicating it was originally described by Linnaeus under a different generic name and later transferred to Crossostephium by the Japanese botanist Tomitarō Makino.
Distribution
The genus's only species, Crossostephium chinense, occurs across coastal and island East/Southeast Asia — Japan's Kazan-retto and Nansei-shoto island groups, Taiwan, Guangdong (China), Indochina, Peninsular Malaysia, and the Philippines.
