Crucianella is a genus of flowering plants in the coffee family, Rubiaceae, placed in the order Gentianales. The genus was described by Linnaeus, with the name published in Species Plantarum in 1753. The GBIF backbone taxonomy recognizes around 52 accepted names (including infraspecific taxa) within the genus, commonly known by the vernacular name "crossworts."
Species in the genus are annual herbs. Their native range extends from the Mediterranean region eastward through Central Asia to the Arabian Peninsula, reflecting a broadly Old World, warm-temperate to arid distribution typical of many Rubiaceae found in these regions.
At least one member of the genus has spread beyond its native range: Crucianella angustifolia has become naturalized in parts of the western United States, having been recorded in northern California, southern Oregon (Josephine County), and Idaho (Clearwater County).
