Halerpestes is a small genus of flowering plants in the buttercup family Ranunculaceae, placed in the order Ranunculales. The genus comprises roughly nine species of herbaceous perennials distributed across a wide geographic range that includes Europe, temperate and tropical Asia, North America, and South America. Like other members of Ranunculaceae, Halerpestes plants typically produce small flowers and grow in wetland or montane habitats. The genus includes Halerpestes cymbalaria, a species native to North America, and Halerpestes sarmentosa, widely distributed across temperate Asia, as well as Halerpestes uniflora, found in South America.

Distribution

Halerpestes has a broad, disjunct native range spanning Europe, temperate and tropical Asia, North America, and South America. Individual species tend to occupy wetland and montane environments within these regions.

Halerpestes is placed in the family Ranunculaceae, order Ranunculales, and is accepted as a distinct genus by GBIF (key 320313941). The genus contains approximately nine accepted species; authorship details are not recorded in the current GBIF record.
