The glossy, green juvenile heart-shaped leaves are followed by grey-green lance-shaped adult leaves. Clusters of pendent pink flowers appear in late winter, which are followed by urn-shaped woody fruit. Flowering mainly occurs between May and September, with the flowers having pink stamens and yellow anthers.
