Forsythia aka Kumson Forsythia

Taxonomy

Forsythia is a genus of flowering plants in the olive family Oleaceae, consisting of about 11 species. Mostly native to eastern Asia with one species found in southeastern Europe, these deciduous shrubs are known for their bushy, variegated foliage. Growing up to 1.5m high and 1.2m wide, the young leaves of forsythia are bright yellow, later turning green in the center with a creamy white margin, and some leaves remaining yellow. While primarily grown for their attractive foliage, forsythias also produce a few bright yellow flowers in early to mid-spring before the leaves appear. With their upright, arching form, these low-maintenance and fast-growing shrubs fill their long branches with brilliant yellow blooms that precede their leaves. This gives an unobstructed view of the flowers, which are loved by bees and butterflies. Forsythias can serve as a cheerful backdrop, border, or centerpiece in any yard, with smaller varieties reaching a couple of feet tall and wider spread, while larger ones can grow up to 10 feet in height and spread.

Lighting

Kumson Forsythia requires abundant, bright and direct light. Placing it less than one foot from a window is the best way to make sure the plant receives enough light to survive and thrive. Depending on your region, however, the current weather can affect the placement of the plant in your home. For example, in some areas the sun may be too direct and intense, so it's best to place it farther away from the window. You may also need to adjust your placement according to the season as the sunlight can change intensity over the course of the year. If you live in a region with significant temperature fluctuations, such as a desert, you may need to place the plant a bit farther away from the window to avoid extreme heat or cold. With some care and attention, your Kumson Forsythia will be sure to bring you many years of beauty and enjoyment.

Dormancy

During the wintertime, it is common for Kumson Forsythia plants to go dormant and their growth rate may slow down. Therefore, the amount of waterings should be spaced out more.
