Monstera standleyana aka Philodendron Cobra
Taxonomy
Monstera standleyana, also known as the Five Holes Plant, is an exotic species of flowering plant from the Araceae family that can be found in Costa Rica, Honduras, Nicaragua and Panama. It was described by G.S. Bunting in 1967 and is often confused with Philodendron because of its variegated leaves, although the University of Minnesota has officially classified it as a Monstera standleyana. The name Monstera comes from the Latin word for monstrous/abnormal which is thought to refer to the incredible fenestrated leaves of the plant. It is a climber that uses aerial roots to grab onto trees as it grows, and is capable of growing up to 60ft/18m tall. Many plant lovers enjoy Monstera standleyana for its colourful leaves with holey, slitted shapes. Thankfully, this tropical plant is fairly easy to care for and makes a very attractive addition to any indoor garden.

Philodendron Cobra, AlboHow to care for Philodendron Cobra
Difficulty
With a bit of knowledge and dedication, you can successfully care for Philodendron Cobra, making it a rewarding choice for those seeking a moderate challenge.
Water
Philodendron Cobra should be watered regularly, allowing the soil to dry out between waterings.
Soil
Philodendron Cobra loves a well-draining soil. Perlite and vermiculite help with drainage, while coco coir adds organic matter, so a good potting soil mix will have all three. You can improve store-bought soil by adding some perlite to it.
Lighting
To ensure optimal growth, the Philodendron Cobra prefers bright indirect light for 6-8 hours each day. Insufficient light can result in slow growth and leaf drop, so it's important to find a well-lit location for this plant. Place it near a window, within a distance of 1 meter (3 feet), to enhance its potential for thriving.
Dormancy
During the wintertime, it is common for Philodendron Cobra plants to go dormant and their growth rate may slow down. Therefore, the amount of waterings should be spaced out more.
Toxicity
Ploi lacks confirmed information on the toxicity of this plant. If you, a relative, or your pet accidentally consume plant material with unknown toxicity, it's best to consult a medical expert.
Humidity
The Philodendron Cobra does not need extra humidity. Plants primarily absorb water through their root system, making soil watering the best way to provide humidity to your plants.
Fertilizer
The Philodendron Cobra should be repotted when it has doubled in size or annually, whichever comes first. Providing fresh potting soil with all the essential nutrients each year ensures the plant's well-being, eliminating the need for fertilizer. Remember, plants derive their energy from the sun and not fertilizer.
Region of origin
Philodendron Cobra’s native range is Central America.
