Paphiopedilum charlesworthii aka Charlesworth Paphiopedilum

Taxonomy

Paphiopedilum charlesworthii is a medium-sized, epiphytic or semi-terrestrial evergreen orchid that belongs to the family Orchidaceae. It is native to Assam India, Myanmar, Thailand, and southwestern China, where it grows on high, steep peaks, often on western or northwestern slopes at elevations of 1200-1600 m. This orchid can be found in shaded areas, with its roots firmly attached to rocks, although it can also be found in more exposed positions in gaps and on naked rocks. The plant has strap-shaped, glossy, green leaves that can reach up to 25cm in length and 3cm in width, with purple spots near the base and on the underside. During the late summer and fall, the flowering stems emerge from the center of the leaf rosettes, carrying a single, long-lasting flower. The flower is approximately 8cm in size and features a lime-green, brown-veined pouch and petals, along with a white dorsal sepal that is patterned with pink. The inflorescence, which is covered in reddish spots, is pubescent and measures around 10" (25 cm) in length, with obovate floral bracts that cover 2/3 of the ovary. Overall, Paphiopedilum charlesworthii is a beautiful orchid species that thrives in cool conditions and adds a touch of elegance to its surroundings.
