Polygonatum verticillatum aka Whorled Solomon's Seal
Taxonomy ID: 15039
Polygonatum verticillatum, also known as whorled Solomon's-seal, is a rhizomatous perennial plant species that belongs to the Polygonatum genus. It can be found in Europe, China, the Himalayas, but is absent in large sections of western and Central Asia. This plant features reddish-purple, erect stems that can reach up to 90cm in height. Its lance-shaped leaves are stalkless and are mainly arranged in whorls, although sometimes they can be opposite. From late spring to mid-summer, it produces 1-4 pendant tubular flowers in the leaf axils, which are pale pink in color. These flowers are then followed by small red berries. Whorled Solomon's-seal is a super rare houseplant that thrives with regular watering. It prefers abundant sunlight and should be placed less than 3 feet away from a window. Well-draining soil is recommended for this plant. Fertilizers are usually unnecessary if the plant is repotted each time it doubles in size.
