Ploi ID privacy policy

Last updated October 21, 2026.

Ploi ID is a plant identification app for iPhone made by Eugeniu Vozoca, the developer of Ploi. You don't need an account to use it, and it never asks for your name or email. This policy explains what the app sends, where it goes and what is kept.

Ploi's own website and app are covered by the Ploi privacy policy.

Photos you identify

When you identify a plant, the app shrinks your photos (up to four per identification) and sends them, with the plant part you picked, to our server at ploi.me over an encrypted connection.

Our server passes them to Pl@ntNet, a plant identification service, and sends the results back. Neither our server nor Pl@ntNet stores your photos; they are held in memory only while the identification runs.

Your photos are kept in the app's library on your device.

An anonymous install ID

To keep free identifications fair and stop abuse, the app proves to our server that it is a genuine copy using Apple's App Attest. For each installation, our server keeps an App Attest key, a random ID created by the app, when it was last used and how many free identifications it used each day.

None of this contains your name, email, Apple ID or contact details, and we don't link it to anything else about you.

Purchases

Apple handles every payment; we never see your payment details. We use RevenueCat to know whether an installation has Ploi ID Pro.

RevenueCat receives the app's random ID and the purchase details Apple provides, such as the product, the dates and whether it renews. Our server asks RevenueCat about that ID to decide whether an identification counts toward the free limit.

Analytics

We use TelemetryDeck to count a few anonymous events, such as a finished identification and how confident it was, a saved plant, a viewed offer or a completed purchase, with basic technical details like the app version, iOS version and device model.

TelemetryDeck sees your device only as a salted one-way hash, so we can't tell who you are. We don't record screen views, sessions or your location.

Crash reports

When Ploi ID crashes or freezes, it sends a report to Sentry so we can fix the problem. The report contains the error, a short trail of what the app did just before it, the app and iOS versions, the device model, and a random ID that Sentry creates for the installation. It doesn't include your photos or your location.

If you have chosen to share analytics with app developers in your iPhone's settings, Apple also sends us anonymized crash reports and diagnostics.

Location (optional)

“Tag where I found it” is off until you turn it on. When it's on, the app saves an approximate location with each new identification in your library.

Your location is never sent to our server or to Pl@ntNet. If you use iCloud, it syncs with your library to your other devices.

Your library and iCloud

Your identifications, saved plants and notes stay on your device. If iCloud is on, the app syncs them through your private iCloud database, which Apple holds and we can't read.

Notifications about finished identifications are created on your device.

Our server

Like any website, our server keeps standard request logs and error reports, which include your IP address, for security and troubleshooting. They don't include your photos.

What we don't do

We don't show ads, track you across apps or websites, sell your data, or share it with data brokers.

Children

Ploi ID is not aimed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect personal information about them.

Your rights

Under data protection laws such as the GDPR, you can ask to access, correct or delete your data, restrict or object to its processing, or take it with you. Because we hold nothing that identifies you, the simplest way to remove everything is to delete the app and its iCloud data. You can also email us and we'll help.

You can complain to your local data protection authority.

Changes to this policy

If what the app collects changes, we'll update this page before the new version ships.
