Poa pratensis, also known as Kentucky bluegrass, smooth meadow-grass, or common meadow-grass, is a perennial species of grass that is native to Europe, North Asia, and the mountains of Algeria and Morocco. Although it is found in cool, humid parts of the United States, it is not native to North America. This plant is useful for making lawns in parks and gardens, and for grazing. However, it has also established itself as a common invasive weed across cool moist temperate climates like the Pacific Northwest and Northeastern United States. When found on native grasslands in Canada, it is considered an unwelcome exotic plant and indicative of a disturbed and degraded landscape. Smooth Meadowgrass, a rare houseplant, also belongs to the Poa genus and is native to the Northern Hemisphere.
