Hippeastrum striatum, also known as the Striped Barbados Lily, is an exotic perennial bulbous plant that belongs to the Amaryllidaceae family. Native to the southern and eastern regions of Brazil, it can also be found in the tropics, indoors and in the glasshouse. Growing all year round, the flower produces three to six glossy strap-like leaves topped by two trumpet-shaped blooms on a stem that last for four to seven days. With its attractive petals and pleasant fragrance, the Striped Barbados Lily can become a bright and bold addition to any indoor space. At the same time, its bulb has medicinal properties and can be used against asthma, bronchitis, constipation and other respiratory diseases, possessing both galanthamine and lycorine. If grown in a warm and well-lit area, it can thrive with regular watering and a gentle, organic fertilizer.
